Realizing features of knowledge-based organizations and obtaining a comprehensive image of the new public administration approach to knowledge management can be considered as the first step towards designing a "knowledge-based policing". With the growth of globalization, developments in information and communications technologies, including the development of network communities, new media and educational innovations, it seems more crucial than ever before to revise the methods applied in information and knowledge management. Universities play a major role in trading knowledge and serve as a basis for making use of measures based on knowledge management. In the analysis of the structure of the university's mission, micro- and macro-level goals are based on knowledge management and include discovery, acquisition or production and innovation. In universities, teaching and knowledge transfer takes place through the application of knowledge management that can be knowledge of human affairs as a public service, and that can be sustained by the academic centers. The University of Police as a higher education institution undertakes to transfer state-of-the-art knowledge in the field of police and policing. As an institution that protects people's life and property, the police organization has numerous responsibilities, the fulfillment of which depends upon adopting realistic decisions. This is possible only through knowledge management. Knowledge management and reforms to simplify the process of participation, distribution, invention or creation, collection and acquisition of knowledge can help the police organization take innovative decisions and turn it into a knowledge-driven, innovative and up-to-date organization. Using a library research method, the researcher addresses the concept of knowledge management, as well as the concepts, theories, limitations, and approaches towards it. Then suggestions are made as to the application of knowledge management in the police force. |
